How to Do a Detox

The best way to start any diet and weight loss program is to perform a detox or liver cleanse. The period in which you do a detox, will help jump start your weight loss, thus aiding in the motivation to continue with your weight loss program. People will comment on how refreshed you look. They will start asking you,’ what have you been doing?' Stay quiet, with a new firm commitment to stay on your weight loss program till your goal is finally met.

To start a detox is often times very difficult to do. The first few days will be difficult on the body as it is flushing toxins. You will be tired and may even be quite snappy. However, the success of the detox depends on your resolve to stick with your goal.

A detox period lasts between 2-5 days. During this particular detox, the first day till the third day will consist of raw foods only - vegetables, fruits, and unsalted nuts. Munch on these items, avoiding starchy vegetables like potatoes and peas. Carrots are okay, especially for smoothies.

The final two days, day four and five, one should consume only raw fruits and vegetables. Stop eating four hours before going to bed. By day four, you should feel really energized. Cravings for sugar or salty foods will have resolved.

When you return to your diet plan, do so slowly. Add a protein source or dairy to just one meal, preferably breakfast or the early morning snack. This will give the body enough time to digest. Egg whites are also a great transition back to regular eating.

Do this for one week and after you should be ready to eat whole foods again. Make sure to drink plenty of water to help your body digest all the fiber.
