Moderate your Insulin Levels and Lose Your Belly

Insulin is a hormone that regulates the sugar in your bloodstream. Insulin is in charge of trouble shooting how much sugar you cells take from your blood stream. This hormone, insulin, also stops the use of fat as an energy source. What? Insulin stops your body from using fat. That sucks!

Insulin breaks down carbohydrates into sugar for cell energy. Without carbohydrates, insulin is not released in the high amounts its usually shelled out. Then the cells are forced to look for other sources of energy - like the fat on your belly. That's why protein diets and low carb diets work. But they are dangerous. So, proceed with caution.

So to motivate your body to use your fat, we need to keep our insulin levels low. How do you do that?

Carbohydrates, sugary and processed foods will spike your insulin levels. Proteins and fats like omega 3's and 6's take longer for the body to process and don't use insulin like carbohydrates do. Protein diets and low carb diets are great ways to keep the insulin down.

But be careful with insulin ... without insulin, sugar stays in the blood and cannot get into your cells for energy. The cells WILL indeed begin to use fat as a source of energy. BUT, after time, the body produces ketones, chemicals produced by the liver. Ketones are dangerous - ketone build up can put you in a COMA!! So please be careful with your hormones.

More About Glucose

Normal blood glucose or blood sugar levels are between 80mg/dL to 110mg/dL. Your normal blood sugar should be at this level most of the time, except right after a meal.

Be careful of hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia is a term used to label low blood sugar levels. Some of the symptoms include lethargy or weakness, impaired mental functioning, irritability, and loss of consciousness.

Hyperglycemia is not something we want either. Hyperglycemia or high blood sugar is usually defined as a blood sugar over 190. When a person has hyperglycemia for long periods of time they are at risk for developing diabetic foot ulcers (really, nasty), damaging their kidneys, yeast and vaginal infections, cold feet, damaging the tiny nerves in their eyes. Its not a good thing. Signs of hyperglycemia include extreme thirst, headaches, blurred vision, frequent urination, fatigue and weight loss.

So watch your sugar kids! Mind your hormones and definitely watch what you eat.
