A Complete List of High Protein Foods to Help You Follow Your High Protein Diet
A high protein, low carbohydrate diet is best to follow hen you want to drop some fat fast. Eating meals high in carbohydrates causes a horrible insulin response. Insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas, determines how food (energy) will be used or stored.
When you eat French fries or cereal, your blood sugar levels rise immediately. This causes insulin to come out and put the blood sugar into the cells. Insulin determines how much blood sugar or energy will be given to the cells, muscle cells, fat cells, and liver for storage or use.
Since there is a rise in blood sugar, insulin signals the halt of fat breakdown. Basically since you just ate, you are providing your body with fuel. So the body does not need to breakdown fat for fuel. When blood sugar levels are low, the body breaks down fat for energy. This is what we want.
We want the body to breakdown fat. To do this we must keep blood sugar levels down so as to not signal an insulin response. The good news is we don’t have to starve to keep blood sugar levels down. Following a high protein diet, does not create a rise in blood sugar.
Here is a list of high protein foods that will keep your blood sugar levels low:
Tuna – Have a tuna sandwich without the bread. Use lettuce or cucumber slices instead. Drink a glass of water with this meal as well.
Roasted chicken – It is so easy to pick up a readymade roasted chicken from the grocery store. You can eat these chickens plain – they are so flavorful.
Eggs – Have an omelet. This is the perfect breakfast meal, but you can have it any other time. Eggs are full of protein. They are fulfilling as well. You can pack your omelet with veggies like bell peppers or spinach.
Protein shakes – I like Myoplex Lite in Chocolate. I put this powdered protein in yogurt as I am rushing out of the door to work. The only thing is I get really hungry within two hours of eating this, but I guess this is natural. We are supposed to eat every two to three hours.
String cheese – Snack time. String cheese is a brilliant idea in between meals. It hits the spot, but does not constitute a full meal. Also, this fun food won’t send your blood sugar sky rocketing like other kid snacks.
