Many people who go on low carb, high protein diets, carry around ketone sticks. These sticks,you urinate on to tell you if your body is in ketosis or not.
Being in ketosis means that our body is successfully using fat as a source of energy. Ketones are merely the end product of fat metabolism or fat breakdown.
When you eat carbohydrates, your body can freely use this food to convert into glucose easily. However, go on a low carb, high protein diet and your body is forced to use the fat in your meal and the fat on your tummy as fuel. This is what we want.
How Do You Know You Are in Ketosis?
How do you know you are in ketosis? Pee on a stick. One type of ketone, called acetone (gives off a fruity smell) is excreted in the urine and breath. If there is enough of this end product it can be detected by one of those ketosis sticks.
