Is A Sugar Addiction Causing You to Have a Jelly Belly
A sugar addiction is where people have a physical or bodily dependence on sugar and/or its derivatives. How do you know if you are a sugar addict? If you take sugar away from your diet, do you experience withdrawl symptoms like headaches, lethargy, confusion, dizziness or light-headedness?
If you experience any of those symptoms, you are most likely like a drug addict, addicted to the chemical - sugar. It can happen.
How do you kick the habit...Do it slowly. Think of your new life like a twelve step program. Implement little changes every few days or weeks and in no time, you will have kicked the habit. The first thing you want to do is start drinking two to three liters of water a day. This will help aid in any food cravings, and make you feel full.
The next thing you want to do is start small. Try taking away salad dressings, ketchup, and other sauces away from your diet. These things are loaded with sugar, salt and many empty calories. Replace you salad dressing with olive oil, lemon juice, and vinegar. Stay away from foods that require ketchup - like fries. By the way, fries are bathed in a sugar/salt combo. That's probably why they are so addictive and good.
Once you have cut out simple stuff like sauces - move on to the bigger things like soda, juice, cookies, cakes, candy. Those late afternoon pick me ups, don't really serve their purpose as you are always let down within forty five minutes of the quick energy surge with lethargy and incessant yawning. SO, cut the juice and soda and move on to low calorie, sugar free jello or energy shots with no sugar. Try a vitamin B pill - these are natural energy boosters.
Take it day by day. Eliminate things from your diet slowly. Re-introduce healthy alternatives like fruits and veggies. If you truly have to, go the sugar alternative route, but make sure your ultimate goal is to be free from you sugar addiction.
